Documents to gather before your appointment
Start with identity and income: Social Security cards or ITIN info for the household, W-2s, 1099s, interest and dividend forms, unemployment, and prior-year return if you have it. Add childcare, education, mortgage interest, property tax, and charitable gifts when they apply.
Self-employed? Pull bank summaries, mileage logs, home-office notes, equipment purchases, and quarterly estimates already paid. Messy is fine. We would rather sort a pile early than fix an incomplete return later.
